Q-SYS Project Scope/Goal
River Oaks Church - Updated October 2024
Goal: Improve the redundancy and reliability of existing room control systems and get all Kramer systems retrofitted with Q-SYS so that it can be easily managed and have low-maintenance once I graduate.
Overview: This project will implement a highly-available, centralized and locally-hosted Q-SYS system that will control all of the A/V/L equipment in a variety of rooms throughout the River Oaks Goshen campus.
Rooms:
- Studio
- Dark Room
- Student Cafe
- Cafe
- Resource Center
- Auditorium
- Kids Lobby
- Kids Large Group Room
- Kids 203A
- Kids 203B
General goal for each room: If it’s already controlled by Kramer, replace it with Q-SYS to control TV power/inputs, speakers/amplifiers, lighting (if applicable). If it doesn’t have Kramer, implement a room control system to simplify and streamline the process of powering on / off that room.
Breakdown of each individual room:
Studio –
Implement a system to control the audio console and speaker power, in addition to the audio inputs to the recording devices. TV will also be controlled by Q-SYS
Dark Room –
Replace the Kramer system with Q-SYS control to centralize the management of the A/V/L equipment. It will also replace the self-programmed lighting system run from the stream deck and TV power controls on the stream deck. +Possibly reimplement the remote control station near the entrance of the dark room to allow working lighting control.
Student Cafe –
Not 100% required, but could control the TV’s and in-ceiling speakers.
Cafe –
Replace the Kramer system to have Q-SYS control TV inputs, volume control, system power on / off.
Resource Center –
Have Q-SYS control the volume of the in-ceiling speakers.
Auditorium –
Replace the existing aging London Blu device to have Q-SYS be the final route of audio before the PA system. Also centralize power control of the room to have a way to turn on / off lighting relays and audio system power with Q-SYS
Kids Lobby –
Replace the self-programmed dashboard to control TVs and implement TV power control as well as video input switching for the TVs. Q-SYS will also control audio inputs and mixing.
Kids Large Group Room –
Replace the self-programmed power control system that uses DMX dimmer packs to power on / off equipment with Q-SYS. +Amplifier control from Q-SYS.
Kids 203A / 203B –
Both rooms currently have an interconnected Kramer system that allows for the main system to “mirror” to the other. Both systems would be replaced with Q-SYS so that it can reliably control audio and screens.
