Playing Back Multitrack Recordings
River Oaks Church - Created July 2025
At this time, due to the current setup, we cannot play back multi channels of the multitrack recordings due to the limitations of our Q-SYS Dante licenses and many other factors.
That being said, attached here is a list of channels that we are able to play back easily through Logic.
| Logic Out # | Name |
|---|---|
| 3-4 | Miscellaneous Channels [Unused] |
| 9 | FoH PA (Left) |
| 10 | FoH PA (Right) |
| 12 | Building Feed (Mono) |
| 13 | Timecode |
| 14 | Click/Cues |
These channels all have different destinations, but generally speaking, those are the channels that can be played back easily when you press play on a Logic recording file.
Logic Playback
To play back audio in logic, you need to open up the file you are looking for. These will be stored on any of the SSDs, or on the server (more info on this to come).

This next section explains the whole menu tree of the playback controls. Keep scrolling to read the required settings for playback.
Playback Controls Menu
This can be seen from the main home page of the Q-SYS touch screen, and selecting the "Playback Controls" button in the bottom left.
This menu includes a variety of functions that all are related to playback.
- Timecode SRC.
This toggle switches between the Playback timecode (from Logic) or normal timecode (from Ableton). To play back from Logic, select the "Playback" option
- Bldg. Source.
This toggle switches the current building feed output between hospitality or live. Live would be anything that is currently being used (In terms of Ableton or the CL5, depending on how that is set outside of this menu). Hospitality is just a gain-adjusted mix of the hospitality mix. To play back, you need to select Hospitality in this section
- Hospitality Src.
This toggle lets you switch between the hospitality mix or the playback (logic) mix. Generally speaking, you will always have Hospitality selected, unless you need to playback audio. In that case, you will have Playback selected.
- Playback Audio Level
This adjusts the audio level of the audio that is feeding the PA speakers. This will only affect the currenly live output to the FoH PA.
- Building Feed
This mute button mutes the live building feed, and like the playback audio level fader, will not affect the recording after the fact.
- Audio
The red audio button takes you to a confirmation page that explains that this will affect the live output to the PA. You will NEVER want to do this during a rehearsal, service, or event. This is ONLY for playback scenarios.
Once you confirm, you will have the option to adjust the LIVE PA SPEAKERS to grab audio from the audio board, or the Logic recording.
Playing Back FoH + Timecode + Click/Cues
The most common of playback is going to be playing back the "in the room" experience. This can be done from the main home page of the Q-SYS touch screen, and selecting the "Playback Controls" button in the bottom left.
Timecode Src: Need to be Logic
Bldg Source: Doesn't necessarily matter, but has to be Hospitality if you want to play back building feed
Hospitality Src: Again, if you need building feed to play back, select Playback.
Playback Audio Level: I usually have this all the way up, and unmuted.
Building Feed: Leave this muted, unless you need the building feed audio
To change the PA speakers to play the playback audio, go to Audio > Continue > Hospitality.
Putting Everything Back (Important)
To put everything back, the easiest way is to go back to the audio home screen, and select the "Default Reset" button in the bottom left.
That's it!
